John E. Baker, a lawyer, came to Alaska in 1897. He worked for the Alaska Commercial Company for many years at Forty-Mile Station, Eagle, Fairbanks, Tanana, the Hotsprings Post, McGrath, and Takotna, where he homesteaded.
